- 22 May 2024
St. Petersburg International Economic Forum
For the 27th time, the St. Petersburg Economic Forum, under the patronage of the President of Russia, gathers representatives of international and domestic businesses on a single platform. This is one of the most significant events in the field of economics. In 2024, the SPIEF will last for several days, from 5 to 8 June.
About the forum
SPIEF is an important economic event for the country. It brings together politicians and businessmen, scientists and experts from various fields, media representatives from different countries. Here, global economic issues are considered, experiences are exchanged in the formats of round tables and business breakfasts, panel discussions are held, and agreements are concluded. Over the years, the forum has become a leading global platform where representatives of the business community can communicate and discuss important issues facing Russia, emerging markets and the world.
The program of the forum
Each year, the SPIEF is dedicated to a specific theme reflecting current global economic challenges and trends. In 2024, the main theme will be multipolarity and the development of new growth opportunities.
Business program
The business program of the forum is divided into four large blocks:
1. The transition to a multipolar economic model in the world. More than thirty events are devoted to this topic. New opportunities for BRICS in today's conditions, the unification of cultures and traditions, the search for growth points, the development of cooperation in various industries and many other issues will be considered.
2. The goals and objectives of the new cycle of the Russian economy. Experts will discuss the possibilities of economic development using the internal resources of the Russian Federation, issues of labor productivity and training, plans for the development of small towns and more.
3. The priority areas of the state's attention are traditional values, public health, and social development. The discussion area includes investments in demographic development, educational programs, and support for large families.
4. Technologies that provide leadership — about the development of digital technologies in all economic fields, increasing the capabilities of artificial intelligence and other issues.
Specialized business platforms and forums will work, and participants will be able to participate in business breakfasts and panel discussions.
Youth program
This time the youth program will be held under the motto "Day of the Future". Master classes and expert sessions on topical topics will be organized for young entrepreneurs, youth project coordinators, and scientists, and practice-oriented lectures will be held. The speakers will be opinion leaders, business owners and representatives of large companies.
Where to go after SPIEF
St. Petersburg is an incredibly beautiful city with a rich history, and June is also a time of white nights. After intense days at the International Economic Forum, you will definitely want to relax and take a walk around the northern capital. Here are some interesting places near the Expoforum Exhibition Center, where the SPIEF will be held.
Pavlovsk Museum-Reserve
In 1777, Catherine II presented her Pavel and his wife Maria Feodorovna with land in the vicinity of St. Petersburg for the construction of a manor. Over time, a palace and a park appeared there, which was named Pavlovsky. After the death of Paul I, the Pavlovsky estate became the property of the imperial family. Now it is one of the largest and most beautiful palace and park ensembles in Russia, covering an area of more than 600 hectares.
Pavlovsky Palace
The three-storey palace, decorated in light golden colors, is visible from afar, as it is located on the high bank of the Slavyanka River. The exquisite structure, topped by a flat dome with columns, was designed by the outstanding architect Charles Cameron, and subsequently expanded by the court architect Vincenzo Brenna.
The interiors are richly decorated with works of art, furniture and decorative elements, many of which were ordered from Europe or created by the best Russian craftsmen. Now there is a museum here and you can see everything with your own eyes, much of the interior has been preserved.
The palace building is adjacent to a beautiful park, which is an example of landscape art. There are spacious lawns, shady alleys, winding rivers and picturesque ponds. Numerous pavilions, bridges, statues and gazebos give a special charm, each of which has its own history and unique architectural style. Maria Feodorovna's private garden, adjacent to the Empress's chambers, is especially beautiful.
BEEP Lock
Romantic castle-fortress, built by order of Emperor Paul I. The appearance resembles a medieval fortress with towers, battlements and moats and looks very colorful. Pavel was not indifferent to everything related to military operations, so systems of fortifications were built around. All important events were accompanied by gunfire, and parades and military reviews were held on the territory.
During the war, a bomb hit the building, and a fire destroyed the interior. For a long time it was just ruins that were gradually overgrown with shrubs and grass. Now the building has been restored and in appearance resembles the original project of Paul I. The territory itself is closed, but you can admire it from a distance.
Marienthal Park
By order of the wife of Paul I, the Marienthal pond was laid next to the castle. Maria Fyodorovna loved to come and walk along the smooth alleys. The pavilion of the Three Graces with snow-white columns is well preserved. A trellis staircase leads down to the pond, named after the Trellis Pavilion, which has not been preserved to this day. The places here are very picturesque, so you can often meet artists in the open air.
Civil Aviation Museum
The Museum of Civil Aviation is a center of attraction for anyone interested in the history and technology of flights. Unique exhibits telling about the history of Russian civil aviation are collected here in the open air.
The museum exposition consists of 17 airplanes and helicopters, as well as ground equipment that was used to service aircraft. The oldest exhibit dates back to 1930, and the "youngest" one dates back to 1980.
Here are such iconic models as the Po-2 (U-2), which was the main aircraft of the Red Army during the Great Patriotic War, the first Soviet passenger aircraft ANT-9, the first domestic all-metal Il-14, the first jet passenger aircraft Tu-104, the first long-range wide-body aircraft Il-86 and many others others. The exposition is really interesting.
